How to See Who Unfollowed You on Instagram Without Any App (2026 Method)

The instinct when you notice your follower count has dropped is to immediately search the app store for a tracking tool. But that instinct leads most people toward apps that are risky, inaccurate, or both.

The truth is you don't need to install anything to see who unfollowed you on Instagram. There are two ways to do it: the fully manual method (no tools at all) and the browser-based method (no app download required). This guide covers both.

The Fully Manual Method

This approach works for any Instagram account and requires nothing except your phone and some patience. It's most practical if you're checking on a small number of specific people rather than auditing your entire follower list.

Step 1: Go to their profile. Navigate to the profile of the person you think unfollowed you.

Step 2: Check the Follow button. If their profile shows "Follow" (and you used to follow each other), they've unfollowed you and you're no longer mutuals. If you still see "Following" on your side, that means you follow them but they don't follow you back.

Step 3: Check from their followers list. On their profile, tap "Followers." Use the search bar inside that list to search for your own username. If your name doesn't appear, you're not in their followers — meaning they don't follow you.

The limitation of this method is obvious. If you're trying to figure out who among your 500 or 2,000 followers quietly unfollowed you, checking each one manually would take hours. This only works for checking specific people you already suspect.

The Comparison Method (Manual but Scalable)

A more scalable manual approach is to take periodic screenshots of your follower count and note when it changes. When you see a drop, you cross-reference your current followers list against your memory or notes from before.

Realistically, this only works for very small accounts where you personally know most of your followers. As soon as your account grows beyond a hundred or two followers, this becomes unmanageable.

The Browser-Based Method: No App Download Required

This is where it gets practical for real accounts. Instead of downloading any app, you use Instagram's official data export feature — which works entirely in your browser — and then analyze it with FollowCheck, which also runs entirely in your browser.

No app store. No app download. No installation.

Here's the process:

Step 1: Request your Instagram data export. Go to Instagram Settings → Accounts Center → Your Information and Permissions → Download Your Information. Select "Some of your information," check only "Followers and following," set the format to JSON, and submit the request.

Step 2: Wait for the file. Instagram packages your data and either sends you an email or makes it available in the same settings screen. For most accounts this takes 10–30 minutes.

Step 3: Download the ZIP file. Save it to your computer or phone. Don't unzip it.

Step 4: Go to FollowCheck in your browser. Navigate to followcheck.tech in any browser. Drag and drop your ZIP file onto the upload area, or click to select it.

Step 5: See your results. Within seconds, FollowCheck displays who unfollowed you (if you've uploaded a previous export for comparison), who doesn't follow you back, who follows you that you haven't followed back, and who your mutual followers are.

Everything runs locally in your browser. No account login. No password. No installation. When you close the tab, the analysis is gone — FollowCheck doesn't store your data anywhere.

Why This Is Better Than App-Based Methods

Apps that you download and install on your phone and that require your Instagram login have two major problems.

First, they're risky. Instagram's API does not allow third-party apps to access your followers list. Apps that do so anyway are using unofficial methods that can trigger account bans, reach suppression, or action blocks.

Second, they're often inaccurate. Because they're scraping data rather than reading it directly from Instagram's official records, they can miss followers, show outdated information, or confuse unfollows with account deletions or name changes.

The data export + FollowCheck method uses Instagram's official records. The data is as accurate as it gets, because it's coming directly from Instagram's own database, not from a scrape.

What About Private Accounts?

This method works for private accounts too. When you download your own Instagram data, you get your complete followers and following lists regardless of whether your account is public or private. Instagram gives you access to your own data either way.

How Often Should You Check?

Since the data export method requires a bit of setup each time, most people find it useful to check once a month as a kind of account audit. You request a new export, upload it to FollowCheck, and see what's changed since the previous month.

If you want to track changes over time, you can upload multiple exports. FollowCheck compares them and shows you exactly who was there before and isn't anymore — your unfollowers — along with when the change happened (based on the timestamps in the JSON data).

The Bottom Line

You don't need an app. You don't need to give anyone your password. You don't need to install anything. The browser-based method using Instagram's own data export and FollowCheck gives you accurate, safe, private unfollower tracking — with no app download required.
