The 2026 Guide to Beating the Instagram Shadowban

A shadowban occurs when Instagram hides your content from users who don't follow you—effectively killing any organic growth. The tricky part? Instagram won't tell you if you are shadowbanned.

Identifying the Ban Post a photo with a unique, low-volume hashtag. Ask a friend who does not follow you to go to that hashtag's page. If your post doesn't appear under "Recent," you are shadowbanned.

The Recovery Protocol

  1. Revoke Third-Party Access: Immediately disconnect any app that auto-posts or mass-unfollows.
  2. The 72-Hour Freeze: Stop posting, liking, and commenting for three full days. Give the automated spam filters time to reset your account score.
  3. Remove Banned Tags: Ensure none of your recent posts use "banned" heavily-spammed hashtags (like #beauty or #follow4follow).
  4. Switch to Personal: If you are a Business account, downgrade to a Personal account for a week. This often clears back-end commercial restrictions.
